Laurence achieved straight A grades at Higher (Modern Studies, English, Maths, Media Studies and Psychology) and Advanced Higher (English and History).
Hobbies and Interests
I love making and watching films, meaning I’m often at the cinema or on a short film set. When I’m not there, I’ll be watching football as a long-suffering Hibs fan, reading a book, playing my guitar, or trying new recipes. Having studied politics as well as film at university, I take an interest in current affairs and enjoy a debate about anything political. Academically, I’m most interested in contemporary political films, particularly the ways in which they reflect or seek to affect society’s revolutionary optimism or pessimism.
Ambitions
I’m keen to pursue a research master’s in film studies. Although I’m yet to decide exactly what shape this would take, it would have something to do with representations of radical left-wing ideology and/or work in recent films. My long-term goal is to work in film in some capacity and I’d find fulfilment in academia, production, or programming. In the more near future, after recently enjoying interrailing through Europe, I’d like to do more travelling.
