Hobbies and Interests
While I do enjoy a cosy weekend-in – reading, crafting, or catching up on TV – I also like (weather-depending!) to be out walking, making the most of the stunning Scotttish landscape, or going to either a new or an old-favourite food and drink spot. I’ve always been a big music fan and often tie in trips to visit friends or explore new places with going to a gig too. My academic research has long been centred around the lasting impact of deindustrialisation in the UK – more specifically on how this sociopolitical legacy has influenced regional fictional outputs. Broadly, I am interested in critical theory (particularly on body politics), popular culture analysis, and how societies and individuals use literature/language to communicate and build narratives.
Ambitions
After completing my PhD, I’d be interested in finding a career in research (either within or outside of academia), or in the publishing industry.
