Hobbies and Interests
I always have a book on the go; at the moment it’s My Childhood by Gorky. I love running and playing casual football too. I have played the violin in orchestras and ensembles throughout my life and now I am teaching myself the guitar (and persuading myself to sing a little too!). I am currently studying academic drawing/painting at the Edinburgh Atelier of Fine Art and am interested in all things art (particular favourites are Titian, Rembrandt, Chagall, and Giacometti). Academically, I am drawn to close analysis of language and the structure of texts: how the sounds and rhythms of words produce an effect on the reader/listener. I also like to write short pieces of fiction inspired by writers like Samuel Beckett, Herman Hesse, and Knut Hamsun.
Ambitions
My ambition is to become a painter and alongside this to teach (either fine art or English literature).
