Rowan is a 2nd Year Linguistics PhD candidate at Queen Mary University of London.
Grades and Achievements
Rowan achieved AAAAA grades in her Highers and AAA grades in her Advanced Highers (Maths, French and German). She also graduated 5th in her cohort for her Linguistics BA at University of Cambridge and with a distinction in her MPhil Theoretical & Applied Linguistics also at Cambridge.
Hobbies and Interests
In my spare time I enjoy playing rugby with my local club, as well as going for runs to explore the city. I love to travel and try new foods, so am always on the lookout for interesting places to visit, both nearby and further afield. I’m fascinated by language structure, and am currently conducting research on how people’s brains process small differences in how sentences are constructed. I also love to learn about geography, in particular the movement of people over history, and how this impacts culture, language, and politics.
Ambitions
I love to conduct research so would like to work in a role where I can use the skills I’ve developed during my PhD. I’m also very passionate about education and have loved to see the impact of my tutoring experience in helping students achieve their potential, so a career where I could combine these two elements would be a dream role for me.
