Sarah is a Sociology MA Hons (2.1) graduate from The University of Edinburgh.

Sarah achieved AAAAA grades in her Highers and AAB grades in her Advanced Highers (English, Music and History).

Hobbies and Interests

Outside of university, I love to attend gigs and play bass guitar. I do clay-modelling with both polymer and air dry clay and use acrylics as my colour medium. I mostly make charms inspired by my cat, Clementine, but I also love to delve into more avant-garde styles, taking inspiration from the likes of Kafka, Goya and Ensor. I am also studying French in my free-time and love to cycle whenever possible. I am interested in digital culture; how identity is constructed online particularly in relation to Goffman’s self as a performance. I am also interested in the boundaries of human agency in reference to feminist theory, and philosophers such as Slavoj Žižek. A major focus in my dissertation was Lacanian psychoanalysis and the three orders of subjectivity as understood through Žižek’s lens, and how these interact with social structures to develop our ideological frameworks. Though I transferred to sociology from English literature after two years, the texts I read during my time studying English were inspiring, and are still the highlights of my university experience. I loved studying Bloodchild by Octavia Butler, Freshwater by Awaeke Emezi, and The Waste Land by T.S. Eliot.

Ambitions

A major part of my degree has been centred around the onset and treatment of mental health disorders. Thus once I graduate I hope to complete an MSc Psychology Conversion which will grant me GBC membership for further study. I am striving for a PhD in clinical psychology, and hope to practice one day.
