About Caledonia Tutors
High-Quality Tuition
Caledonia Tutors is a Scotland-based tutoring company providing high-quality online tuition to primary and secondary school pupils across the country, with limited in-person tutoring available in Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Founded in 2018, we work with families who value academic rigour, reliability and a thoughtful, personalised approach to tutoring. Our focus is on long-term academic progress, confidence, and strong outcomes at National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher level.
Today, we work with a carefully selected network of over 200 tutors, supporting students across a wide range of subjects and abilities.

Why Caledonia Tutors Exists
Caledonia Tutors was established to address a gap in the tutoring market: too many services prioritise speed, automation and volume over quality and fit.
Tutoring is most effective when the right tutor is matched to the right student – academically, personally and practically. We exist to provide a service where tutor quality, consistency and accountability come first, rather than being treated as secondary considerations.
Our Approach to Tutoring
Personalised Matching Process
We take a deliberately hands-on approach to tutor recruitment and student matching. We do not use automated matching systems or mass recruitment models.
Carefully Vetted Tutors
Every tutor working with Caledonia Tutors are personally interviewed and vetted, and every tutoring arrangement is set up with care. We consider not only subject knowledge, but also communication style, reliability and the individual needs of each student.
Flexible Online & In-Person Tutoring
Tutoring is delivered primarily online, allowing us to work with the strongest tutors across Scotland while offering families flexibility and consistency. In-person tutoring is available in limited cases where appropriate.
Our Tutors
Our tutors are high-achieving undergraduates and recent graduates, primarily from STEM and academic disciplines, with a strong track record both academically and professionally.
Their achievements commonly include:
- 100% in SQA Exams
- Highest National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher subject marks nationally
- Planck’s Prize winners (2017–2025)
- Multiple “Best in Year” university awards as well as Deans/Merit Lists
All tutors:
- Complete a rigorous two-stage application and interview process
- Hold PVG certification and are assessed on Safeguarding
- Provide verification of qualifications and academic results and references
While academic strength is essential, we also place significant emphasis on professionalism, communication and reliability.
More Than Subject Knowledge
The tutor we work with are close in age to the students they teach, which helps foster genuine rapport and motivation. For many pupils, tutors act not only as academic support but also as positive role models – often inspiring confidence and ambition around future university choices.
Our tutors have experience supporting:
- Students with additional support needs, including ASD, ADHD, Dyslexia and Dyscalculia.
- Students working towards key pass grades.
- High-attaining students aiming for top grades and competitive university applications.

A Service Built On Trust
We recognise that tutoring is a significant commitment for families, and we aim to make the process clear, flexible and low-pressure. There is no long-term commitment, allowing families to proceed with confidence and adjust arrangements as needed.
Clear communication, consistency and safeguarding are central to how we operate. Our aim is to provide a service parents can rely on, and one students feel confident engaging with on a weekly basis.

A Note From the Founder
Caledonia Tutors was founded by Aidan Thomson, who remains closely involved in tutor recruitment, quality control and client support.
The company has grown significantly since 2018, but the underlying principles have not changed: careful selection of tutors, thoughtful matching, and a belief that quality matters more than scale.
