High-Quality Tuition

Caledonia Tutors is a Scotland-based tutoring company providing high-quality online tuition to primary and secondary school pupils across the country, with limited in-person tutoring available in Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Founded in 2018, we work with families who value academic rigour, reliability and a thoughtful, personalised approach to tutoring. Our focus is on long-term academic progress, confidence, and strong outcomes at National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher level.

Today, we work with a carefully selected network of over 200 tutors, supporting students across a wide range of subjects and abilities.

Why Caledonia Tutors Exists

Caledonia Tutors was established to address a gap in the tutoring market: too many services prioritise speed, automation and volume over quality and fit.

Tutoring is most effective when the right tutor is matched to the right student – academically, personally and practically. We exist to provide a service where tutor quality, consistency and accountability come first.

Our Approach to Tutoring

Personalised Matching Process

We take a deliberately hands-on approach to tutor recruitment and student matching. We do not use automated matching systems or mass recruitment models.

Carefully Vetted Tutors

Every tutor working with Caledonia Tutors are personally interviewed and vetted, and every tutoring arrangement is set up with care. We consider not only subject knowledge, but also communication style, reliability and the individual needs of each student.

Flexible Online & In-Person Tutoring

Tutoring is delivered primarily online, allowing us to work with the strongest tutors across Scotland while offering families flexibility and consistency. In-person tutoring is available in limited locations.

Our tutors are high-achieving undergraduates and recent graduates, with a strong track record both academically and professionally.

Their achievements commonly include:

  • 100% in SQA Exams
  • Highest National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher subject marks nationally
  • Planck’s Prize winners (2017–2025)
  • 50+ “Best in Year” university awards and Deans/Merit Lists

All tutors:

  • Complete a rigorous two-stage application and interview process
  • Hold PVG certification and are assessed on Safeguarding
  • Provide verification of qualifications and academic results and references

While academic strength is essential, we also place significant emphasis on professionalism, communication and reliability.

The tutors we work with are often close in age to the students they teach, helping lessons feel relatable, engaging and approachable. As many of our tutors have recently completed the same exams and university application process themselves, they can offer not only academic support, but also valuable guidance, encouragement and insight from recent first-hand experience.

Our tutors have experience supporting:

  • Students with additional support needs, including ASD, ADHD, Dyslexia and Dyscalculia.
  • Students working towards key pass grades.
  • High-attaining students aiming for top grades and competitive university applications.

We recognise that tutoring is a significant commitment for families, and we aim to make the process clear, flexible and low-pressure. There is no long-term commitment, allowing families to proceed with confidence and adjust arrangements as needed.

Clear communication, consistency and safeguarding are central to how we operate. Our aim is to provide a service parents can rely on, and one students feel confident engaging with on a weekly basis.

A Note From the Founder

Caledonia Tutors was founded by Aidan Thomson, who remains closely involved in tutor recruitment, quality control and client support.

The company has grown significantly since 2018, but the underlying principles have not changed: careful selection of tutors, thoughtful matching, and a belief that quality matters more than scale.

My daughter was crashing Nat 5 chemistry and had sessions every week with Aminah. She was brilliant. Put her at ease with the first meeting and was very thorough and really made her feel confident going into the exam. She got an A and couldn’t have done it without her.

My son failed his English prelim so we decided to get him a tutor. He worked with Skye online on a weekly basis from Jan-April (before his diagnosis of Dyslexia). Delighted that my son got a B in his English Nat 5! Thanks to Skye for all her support. 🙏🏽 P.S. I would have scored 5/5 if F2F was available which was my son's preference.

We couldn't have asked for anyone better. The results came out last week and my daughter got an A - she is delighted. Thank you Jessica!

Absolutely recommend. Our son did prelims with C grade (English is his second language), we arranged lessons twice a week, with wonderful tutor Michael and three months later got B for the Nat5. Arranging lessons also was very fast, easy process, very welcoming team. Thanks a lot.

Exceptional support for Higher Spanish! We are so pleased with the tutoring our daughter received from Elsie for her Higher Spanish exam. Elsie is not only incredibly knowledgeable, but she was also brilliant at adapting her teaching to suit my daughter’s specific learning style. She made every session engaging and enjoyable, which really helped build my daughter's confidence. Beyond the academics, Elsie was incredibly caring; she messaged after the exam to see how it went and checked in again on results day. She was always reliable, and nothing was ever too much trouble. We also had a fantastic experience with Caledonian Tutors as an agency. They are reliable, responsive, transparent, and a real pleasure to deal with. We are delighted with the grade our daughter achieved, and we will definitely be using them again. Highly recommended!
